Raze and Ruin 2015 - Tally Comp Preview Part 6

Last in the series time!

We've reached the end of the regular army books, and therefore we are moving on to the controversial territory of the End Times army lists. There are 4 that I am letting in to the event, the Undead Legion, the Legion of Chaos and two of the Elven Hosts. I am not allowing the Host of the Eternity King from Khaine, or the Grand Host of the Everchosen from Archaon, as I don't see that these add anything to the game.

The other lists do have some redeeming features though. The Undead Legion is a list I really like, there are a lot of very interesting armies can be made from it. The Legion of Chaos opens up a lot of theme opportunities, and Beastmen players get to add Marks of Chaos back to their troops. The Elf legions are the toughest to justify, but the two that are allowed have some compromises to make if they are chosen.

The starting point on all of these in terms of comp is to start with the individual comps for the units involved. There are some other modifications though, as there are some combinations that exist in the combined lists that are worse than the sum of their parts.

Undead Legions

- Undead Legion armies start at a Comp score of -1

-15 Arkhan the Black, Mortarch of Sacrement
-10 Mannfred von Carstein, Mortarch of Night

+1 Prince Apophas

Changes

Well our first combined list brings the first of our troublesome characters. Nagash himself is an obvious one - even though I would love to find a way to let him in, without modifying the rules he is just too strong for the event. Arkhan the Black in his Mortarch guise though is just powerful enough to be allowed with a large penalty. I hope -15 is enough though to counter his ability to double the points he summons. The other Mortarchs aren't that bad - Mannfred's ability to double the range of summoning is good, hence the penalty, but the others should be fine. I'm even considering a bonus for Neferata in the next update.
The rest is very similar to the comp for the individual armies. A couple of the units have had the sizes altered slightly, and the Banner of the Barrows has a negative if a Tomb King or Prince is included to bump their Weapon Skill

Legions of Chaos

  • Legions of Chaos armies start at a Comp score of -3. However, Legions of Chaos armies comprised entirely of units from Warhammer Armies: Beastmen start at a Comp Score of +1 instead.
  • +1 Legions of Chaos armies that consist solely of units/characters with the same Mark of Chaos. Note that anything that does not have a Mark of Chaos, or an option for one, can all be included in such an army without costing it this bonus, but everything that has the option for a Mark must have a Mark and it must be the same Mark
  • -2 Legions of Chaos armies that have more than 50% of their points in characters
  • The Generic Comp bonuses are modified as below when taken in a Legion of Chaos army:

- The Beast Banner does not count for the Racial Magic Item +2 bonus
- The +2 bonus for the Arabyan Carpet is reduced to +1 if taken on a Doombull, and reduced to 0 if the Doombull has a 3+ Ward save
- The +1 bonus for not including a Dispel Scroll does not apply if any units from Warhammer Armies: Daemons of Chaos are included in the army

-8 Kairos Fateweaver
-3 Epidemius
-1 Blue Scribes
-1 Throgg the Troll King
-1 per Spellcaster after the first, only if the Shard of the Herd Stone is included
-1 per caster using the Lore of Tzeentch after the 2nd
-1 per flying character after the 2nd (in addition to other penalties/bonuses)
-1 for the first Wrath of Khorne Bloodthirster, -2 for any subsequent
-1 per Herald of Nurgle more than units of 20+ Plaguebearers in the army
-1 per Exalted Flamer after the 1st, increasing to -2 for each after the 3rd
-1 per character with a 3+ ward save, with an additional -1 should that character also have the Third Eye of Tzeentch
-1 per Daemon Prince (WoC), with additional penalties for the following options taken:                    -1 for Daemonic Flight,           -1 for a 2+ Armour Save or better
-1 per Daemonic Mount
-1 per Disc of Tzeentch
-1 per Exalted Gift

Changes
The only modifications to the actual units stem from the changes made to the individual armies. However, the Legion of Chaos has so much potential to unbalance things as it has access to some of the more powerful units in Warhammer. Due to this, there are a couple of extra things to look for.
The first is an additional negative for going over 50% with your characters. With access to Greater Daemons, Chaos Lords, powerful sorcerers and the game-breaking Daemon Prince, spending up to 75% of your points on these should attract some sort of extra penalty. There is also a negative for each flying character after the second, as it is these guys that hold the ultimate power of the list.
Also, Daemon armies could have a chance to get a subtle bonus by picking an all Daemon list from this book and picking up the points for not taking a scroll. This seemed to be gaming the system, so I've removed the option to get that bonus if Daemons are included. May be harsh for some Legion armies, but I'd rather over comp these tough lists than under comp them.

Host of the Aestyrion

Changes
Again, the majority of the comp for this list comes from the individual Dark Elf and High Elf lists. However, the Avatar of Khaine himself has the option to lead this army and so needed a comp hit. Tyrion in this incarnation has a lot of power, but it is tempered somewhat by being Frenzied. His stats and Special Rules means a -10 is probably about right, but I could be persuaded to lower it if the right argument presented itself!
Of all the Elven Hosts, this is probably the one I think has the most limitations. A lot of the individual units are not included, and they don't have access to any of the Wood Elf units. I really hope someone comes up with a list from this Host, as it could produce something very characterful.

Host of the Phoenix King

  • A Host of the Phoenix King starts at a Comp score of -2.

  • The Generic Comp bonuses are modified as below when taken in a Host of the Phoenix King:

- The Black Amulet does not count for the Racial Magic Item +2 bonus.
- The +2 bonus for the Arabyan Carpet is reduced to +1 if taken on a Master or a Dreadlord.

  • Banner of the World Dragon:

*Please note that taking this item (hereafter referred to as BotWD) also causes some of the penalties below to change. If you select this item, then please see the notes in brackets after some of the entries below.

  • Shooting:

Add up the number of shots your army can make in a turn. Repeater Bolt Throwers count as 1 for this purpose, and Wood Elf models with Trueflight Arrows or Hagbane Tips count double. If this number is above 70, you score -1 for every 10 (or part of 10) you are above 70.

-15 Malekith, the Phoenix King
-15 Imrik, Crown Prince of Caledor
-10 Alarielle, Avatar of Isha (-15 if BotWD is in the army)

Changes
Right, so this is the tough one. Again, the starting point was the individual army comp, but there were a few things that needed special attention. The most obvious from a first glance was a shooting cap. You have the option to make a VERY shooting heavy army from this list, with Wood Elf archers supported by Bolt Throwers and repeater crossbows, and that could lead to a very tough game for an opponent. Instead of just using the Wood Elf comp on the Enchanted Arrows, I've added a generic shooting limit.
We also have some of the big End Times characters to consider. The toughest of these from the book, Malekith the Eternity King, is excluded with the rest of his list. However, the Phoenix King version of Malekith, and Imrik the Dragonlord are both allowed and are both hit very hard. Letting these guys in was a bit of a gamble, as they could easily ruin someone's weekend. I would love to hear some opinions on their inclusion - would anyone consider taking them with the comp penalty attached?

Well, that's it. All the provisional comp has been released, and now it's a case of waiting for feedback. If there is anything you have to say about any of the comp, please let me know. I'll keep saying this, but the more feedback I get the better I can get the comp to be. You can get me on Twitter, via the comments below, via the event thread on TWF or by emailing me.

If you are interested in the event and want to come along, you can find all the details here on The Warhammer Forum. Hope to see you there!
